I hate waking up to news like this.
The thing that guts me most about Philip Seymour Hoffman’s death is how he had truly made it – the man had everything our society could want – but was still empty enough that he had to battle addiction to the point that it killed him in the end.
How many people who haven’t “made it” look to Hollywood celebrities and think “if only I had what they had, I’d be truly happy”? River Phoenix, Heath Ledger, Amy Winehouse, Bruce Lee, the list of “made its” who died this way is tragically long.
We see the lesson repeated way too many times: true joy and happiness are NOT found in fame and fortune.
I hope that PSH found rest.
